I woke to fangs digging deep into my neck. I let out a choked scream, though it was too quiet to be heard from far away. When my attacker released me, I scrambled away, falling from the top bunk of the shelter I had chosen to stay in overnight. I watched as blood, my blood, fell with me, pouring from my neck. I felt the hard floor slam into my back, and everything went black...
I woke up the next morning still on the floor. My neck burned painfully. I put my hand to it. Someone had bandaged the wound and the blood was now cleaned from the floor. Whoever did this wanted to be careful. I groaned, getting up, and walked from the boarding room back into the old tavern. I knew of the existence of vampires, and I knew that if they allowed their victims to survive, they would become half-vampire. I looked at the door leading outside. Hot sunlight burned in so bight most people would turn away from it. I looked into the light, swallowed, and closed my eyes. If I was half turned... this wouldn't kill me. It would, however, feel like an instant sunburn, or so the stories said.
I walked to the door, probably looking like someone walking down the halls of Death Row for the last time, and stepped out into the daylight. The sun, for a second, felt good. Warm, welcoming even. I walked out further, a pang of hope shooting through me. Suddenly, it hit me like a nuclear blast. Not the force, but the hot scorching feel of radiation. I grit my teeth an shot towards a shady area under a tree, where I collapsed and dragged myself deeper into the shade. My entire body was overcome with a weakness so strong it felt as if gravity had doubled in strength.
After a few agonizing minutes, I pulled myself to my feet and looked back at the tavern. I felt strongly that my attacker was still there, waiting for me. I ran as fast as I could from the shade spot back into the tavern. I dropped to my hands and knees through the door and scrambled on all fours until I was able to use the door frame leading to the boarding room to pull myself to my feet. I found the vampire on the bottom bunk under mine and collapsed on the floor next to the bed. I grabbed onto the bed frame to pull myself up enough to lay my head on the mattress. "It hurts..." I said weakly. My vision blurred and spun slightly. I felt a warm hand on the top of my head. What the hell? warm?
"It's such a shame, seeing my halfling in such a state." A man's voice purred.

I hate him.
HATE.
Kill... I'll KILL him!

Those thoughts rushed through my mind. I wanted to rip his head clean from his shoulders, but I was too damn weak to move. I looked up, seeing two of them. I would have blamed it on my blurring vision, but one of them had shoulder length black hair and the other wore his cropped just over the tips of his ears. For crying out loud. Twin vampires. My vision went dim an I found myself losing consciousness again.
I dreamed of blood. Visions of gruesome scenes coated in red. A mad shuffle of images, flowing rives of crimson. I swear, my mouth was watering in my sleep.
I woke up some time later. Someone had put me on the bed. I was alone. I sat up, feeling a lot better. Sleep was caked to my eyes. I must have been out for a while. I rubbed them clean and put my feet on the floor. My neck itched. I peeled the bandages away and put my hand to the smooth skin. The wounds had healed. I shuddered, sudenly feeling inhuman to a staggering degree. I sat there feeling my neck for a few more minutes before standing up and walking into the tavern area again. Moonlight shone in from the windows. The bartender was a plump woman in her late thirties to early forties. Graying blonde hair was tied into a messy bun on top of her head. I sat own on one of the old bar stools and put my elbows on the bar, resting my head in my hands. "I'm thirsty."
She gave me a knowing look. "Ain't got nothing for you here."
    "Water." I pressed. "Please."
She regarded me with pity, which bothered me, and turned to pour clear, refreshing water into a crystalline glass. She slid it to me carefully, as if I looked like I might attack her. I took the glass and gave her a thankful nod before bringing the water to my lips and drank. The cool water tickled own my throat, moistening it, but never quenching my thirst. I looked down at the half glass of water and chewed on my lower lip. I didn't have fangs, it seemed. I put the it back on the bar without taking another drink and turned on the stool before standing up and looking solemnly outside. Was this my life now? Could I never return to my family and loved ones?

Pure burning hatred rushed through me again.

The night passed quickly. I laid on the top bunk, fuming. I heard the vampiric twins retuning and tried to remain invisible. They didn't pay any attention to me and returned to their beds where they apparently went to sleep. I remained where I was until I could see a small trickle of sunlight pour through the curtain covered window. I leaped down from my bunk to the floor beside the vampire and his twin and immediately grabbed both of them by their throats, one in each hand. It was easy for me to lift them out of bed, dragging them through the tavern as they struggled to get their groggy muscles to react fast enough to fight their way out of my tight grasp. I kicked the tavern's door wide open an tossed the two of them out into the sunlight before closing and locking the door behind them.
They gave me a look of shock and murderous hatred that quickly turned into grimaces of pain as the sun began eating at them like a powerful acid. They let out loud inhuman shrieks and scrambled to find shade. I watched them, a sick sense of pleasure washing over me. They weren't dead, but I had hurt them. For now, that was good enough.
I had to wait for the sun to go down before making my escape. The vampires hadn't stopped me, but I kept wary eyes out as I traveled back to my home in the country. My dad was happy to see me, apparently he had sensed nothing wrong. Life went on as it used to before I had left. Things remained quiet for a couple of days. My thirst never disappeared, but I was able to ignore it.
The sun had just set. My dad and I were relaxing in the living room watching TV when I saw a shadow pass by the window. I felt something stirring in the pit of my stomach. I went outsie without a word and was immediately pounced on. We rolled down the hill, kicking and clawing at each other. When we finally came to a stop, I was on top, grasping the long haired vampire by the throat. He kicked me hard enough to crack bone. I rolled a few feet away from him, coughing and clenching my abdomen.
"This will teach you to behave!" The vampire stood and kicked me where I lay. I watched helplessly as the other started towards my house, a knife held in his hand.
"NO!" I choked. "Don't hurt him!" I reached out to grab his leg and cried out in pain as the vampire who had turned me paused his kicking to stomp on my wrist.
The short haired vampire returned with a bloody knife. He held a small piece of what looked like fruit in hand. "His soul fruit was tiny, oh well. Still worth it." The long haired vampire took the knife from his twin brother and prepared to bring it down to my chest an cut me open as well.

There was the loud "kree" of a hawk suddenly, and the two vampires looked up quickly. "Shit- It can smell the soul fruit!" The short-haired vampire said and dropped the strange fruit he was holding. The long haired vampire gave me a murderous look and retreated with his brother.
The massive hawk landed in front of me and narrowed its dark eyes into mine before letting out another deafening screech. Standing up, it was taller than me. I rose cautiously to my feet, wincing at the pain from the injuries I had just sustained. The hawk approached the "soul fruit" and nuzzled it with his beak. "Bah." The hawk spoke, though it didn't seem to surprise me. "This one is small. It should suffice nonetheless." It opened its mammoth beak to pick up the fruit and I threw myself into it as hard as I could. The hawk let out a displeased cry of anger an flung me about ten feet away simply with the wave of its wing. "You dare interrupt my meal, girl?" Its voice boomed and it turned to face me with an ominous glare. His feathers sudenly became more rigid and reflected the light from the full moon.
I stood up just as a wave of razor-pointed feathers flew towards me. "FOSARE!" I shouted and an invisible force pushed the daggers off course. they dug into the ground at either side of me. The hawk did not stop his attacks. Another wave of dagger-like feathers came for me. "Ventas servitas!" I shouted and a gust of wind blew the daggers in aimless directions. The next wave came before I could prepare for it and a few dug into my chest and shoulders. It was excruciating, but I pushed forward, going to tackle the massive beast who laughed at my efforts. Out of nowhere, three much larger blades dug into my back an pinned me to the ground. My heart pounded in my ears. I felt something trickle from my mouth. Blood, probably.
"Ha, you fool! You thought you could evade me! You should have run like the other two!" It bellowed and walked giddily back to where my father's "soul fruit" lay in the grass. My vision grew hazy. I didn't know what a soul fruit was, but I knew it belonged to my dad, and I couldn't let that bird have it. I pushed against the ground, trying to pull myself back up for another attack. My muscles refused to listen to me. The bird closed its beak around the fruit an chomped down on it. Red fluids splattered from it.
I let out an anguished cry and I was suddenly on my feet, rushing the hawk. I grappled its neck. It thrashed side to side as I hastily tried to come up with a plan. Suddenly, I got an idea.
I'm a vampire... I thought. The hawk let out an agonized scream as I bore my teeth into its soft flesh, drawing blood immediately. I drank fast, swallowing greedily and the thick, warm liquid slid down my throat. It tasted like blood, but went down easily, like a smooth red wine. It didn't take long before the hawk started moving more lethargically. It begged me to stop, but I wouldn't. As it fell to the ground, I pinned it there, drawing every drop if life I could from it. When I was certain its heart had stopped, I stood, wiped my blood soaked face, and smiled. The eerie grin felt right, like it was all I had ever wanted. I felt no more pain from my wounds. The daggers in my body had apparently fallen out on their own as the wounds closed.
I burst into laughter that shouldn't have come from me and I kicked the hawk's lifeless form. Its body sailed farther than it should have. I could feel the change in my muscles, in my very soul. "This..." I said with a refreshed tone of voice "Feels GREAT!" I found myself wondering where the vampiric twins had run to. They were probably watching me somewhere nearby. I grinned more widely. I would get my revenge... and soon.

And I woke up some time later. ^^
I had this dream when I was taking a nap earlier today. It was lucid, so I was able to feel every detail. Wrap your brains aroun that one. I DID NOT change anything about this dream. This is how it went, period.

I think that's the way vampires should be as I described them there.

Still a better love story than Twilight.

Comments are awesome!

*You know... I just realized my brain got the "soul fruit" idea from Soul Eater. xD
